The Trivium Companion is an accompaniment to Sister Miriam Joseph’s The Trivium: The Liberal Arts of Logic, Grammar, and Rhetoric (Paul Dry Books, 2002). It is intended for use by teachers and students as well as the general reader. The Companion clarifies and develops ideas in Sister Miriam Joseph’s book and provides exercises, problems, and questions for its chapters. It also contains a supplement on the reading and analysis of lyric poetry.

Peter Kalkavage is the author of The Logic of Desire: An Introduction to Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit and Music and the Idea of a World, both from Paul Dry Books. For more than forty-five years, he was a tutor at St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland, where he also directed the St. John’s Chorus. Dr. Kalkavage has translated the Timaeus and co-translated the Sophist, Phaedo, Statesman, Symposium, and Meno—all for Hackett Publishing Co., and he is author of two texts that have been used in the St. John’s music program, On the Measurement of Tones and Elements: A Workbook for Freshman Music. He lives in Annapolis, Maryland.
